House numbers that are actually readable from the street
A house number has one job: to be legible from the curb, at dusk, from a car that is already moving. Flat stamped numbers usually fail at it. They sit tight against the wall, take on the color of whatever they are screwed into, and vanish the moment the light goes flat.
Every sign here is cut from 3mm cast acrylic and built in layers, so the digits stand proud of the backing plate and cast a real shadow. That shadow is what your eye reads at forty feet. It is the same construction we use for automotive emblems, which means it is already engineered for weather, UV and temperature swings.
Pick the layout before you pick the color
Three layouts cover almost every house:
- Number only - the classic plaque. Best on a door, a porch column or a mailbox post where the street name is already obvious.
- Number plus street - a second line carrying the street name. Worth it on corner lots, long driveways and anywhere delivery drivers regularly guess wrong.
- Individual digits - separate characters you space yourself. Choose these when you want the numbers spread across a wide surface, or when your wall has an obstruction in the middle.
Apartment buildings, duplexes and small hotels have their own problem: a run of doors that each need their own plaque. Our multi-door builder takes a range like 101-120 and turns it into one plaque per door in a single order, so you are not adding twenty items by hand.
Color, and why mirror finishes work outdoors
There are 20 finishes: 15 solid colors and 5 mirror. Solid colors give you the cleanest daytime contrast - go dark on a light wall, light on a dark wall, and ignore what matches your front door. Mirror finishes do something different: they pick up headlights and porch light and flash back at whoever is looking for you. If your house is hard to find after dark, mirror on a dark backing is the combination that solves it.
Installation, honestly
Every sign ships with 3M automotive tape already applied. Clean the surface, peel, position, press for thirty seconds. No drilling, no anchors, nothing to rust.
The one thing tape will not do is bond to rough or porous surfaces. Brick, textured stucco and split-face stone need a smooth mounting plate or mechanical fixings - the tape needs flat, sealed contact to hold. On painted siding, sealed wood, metal, glass, composite door skins and smooth render it holds indefinitely.
