What a mirror finish actually is here

The mirror layer is mirrored acrylic all the way through, not a reflective coating sprayed onto a clear or white base. That difference only shows up after a year or two on a car, and then it shows up plainly: plated plastic pits from the edges inward and clouds where the wash brushes hit it, while a solid mirrored sheet keeps its face and can only be scratched, not stripped.

It also means the cut edges match the face. On a coated part every chamfer exposes the substrate underneath, which is why cheap chrome-look badges read as grey around the outline once you stand close.

Five finishes, and where each one works

Green, yellow, red, pink and blue. All five behave the same way physically and completely differently on a car, because a mirror does not have a colour of its own so much as a bias applied to whatever it reflects.

  • On black and dark grey every finish reads as a bright, deliberate accent. This is where mirror badges look most like a factory option that was never offered.
  • On white and silver the darker mirrors — red and blue — hold their identity, while yellow and pink can wash out from more than a few metres away.
  • On Nardo, Daytona and the other flat greys a mirror badge does the most work of all, because the car is otherwise deliberately monochrome.

Mirror finishes also photograph unusually well, which is a large part of why people buy them. They catch a light source and throw it, so the badge reads in a phone photo the way it reads in person.

Fitment

Each product carries a list of models, and the badge is cut to the footprint that model actually uses — an M badge for a 3 Series is not the same size as one for an X7. Choose your model on the product page. If yours is not listed, pick Custom and describe the car and the size you need in the order notes.

Install and removal

3M automotive tape is applied before it ships. Clean the panel with isopropyl, peel, position, press for thirty seconds. Nothing is drilled, so nothing is permanent: the badge lifts later with fishing line and gentle heat, which matters if the car is leased or you plan to sell it stock.
